The show remains true to Judge’s original concept and depicts the suburban Hills and their neighbors on Rainey Lane. Fox Broadcasting Company brought in Simpsons writer Greg Daniels to collaborate with Judge on the pilot, and the series debuted January 2, 1997, with Judge and Daniels as co-creators. Hank was loosely based on a neighbor character in Judge’s hit MTV series, Beavis and Butt-head. In 1995, Mike Judge wrote a pilot episode for an animated series centered on Hank Hill, a common sense, all-American propane salesman in Arlen, Texas.
